Patricia Sta. Maria is a 5 years old child, who lives with her sister together with her aunt and grandmother. I met her when I moved away from our house to my husband’s house when we get married. Patricia is a happy child, she always greet me every time I pass her by.
Actually, the child was not referred to me as the client. I just accidentally see her when I was walking with my son. It made me think that she can be my client for this case study. I ask permission to her aunt and she say yes.
Listening, is paying an attention to something and take into account, so as a therapist, I will make an effort of hearing something from my client child. My role as the therapist to my client is to help her from any possible problem she have and to solve it in a way that will help her to have self confidence in facing it. Also, to change her behavior in a way that she will not notice that she is changing.
SECTION C: PRESENTING PROBLEM
Patrizia is 5th in their family. She is now living with her youngest sister, aunt and grandmother. When I was interviewing her aunt about Patrizia, it made me think, why is it that she is not with her mother and siblings? Her aunt said that it is because her mother cannot afford all of them to send to school, because her father is not providing any money or support for the schooling of the children. After a months, her father just left them hanging, and at the end they get separated. So her aunt and grandmother decided to get the two of them (Patrizia and Pauline) and send them to school.
As I asked her aunt, if they noticed any problem about Patrizia, she said thers’s no problem about the child, only if she missed her mother and siblings, it get to the point that she had to cry out loud. But then they understand that because Patrizia was so closed with her mother.
Also her aunt said that the only problem about Patrizia is that, she is not focus on her studies. After class she just put off her bag and go outside to play. Also if there were no classes, she didn’t even open her books to practice reading. As I get in touch with her, I noticed that she just want to play and play. Maybe because she is not yet ready to go to school. For me readiness is an important factor in preparing a child to school. Also, Patricia is very “makulit”.
Patrizia also develops hatred to her father, which I think the most problem she ever encountered.
SECTION D: PSYCHO SOCIAL HISTORY
D.1 TIME LINE
April 16, 2004, the joy of the family Ombrog came, her mother gave to her the name Patrizia Alyssa. After 3 months, her parents decided to baptize her. A year after, Patrizia celebrated her 1st birthday, together with her siblings, cousins, and other relatives. It was then, that the family was so fine and nothings wrong about the relationship of her parents. She learns to walk, and then goes to the mall with her family and visits her Lola.
When she enters 5 years old, she was already in her aunt’s house to send her to school. The school was near at their house. Because of being new in the place, Patrizia got bully by her classmate. She cried. After that event of crying because of bullying, her aunt told him that her parents got separated. As her aunt told her the situation she just said, “ buti nga umalis na yun eh!”(with a loud voice). Christmas day, she was very happy celebrating it. After Christmas her father came to her aunt’s house to visit her and also her sister. Patrizia didn’t talk to her father as her father wishes. New Year came; she received lots of gifts from her relatives. It was full of lights up in the sky. After that her mother also visits together with her siblings, she was so happy and when the time comes that her mother had to go, she was crying.
Now she is currently studying and practicing her graduation march for her graduation this coming month. She was so happy finishing her study.

Patrizia is being 5th in the family.
D.3 SOCIOGRAPH

AT SCHOOL
D.4 SELF-MASTERY
As I asked Patrizia about what she knows about herself, she just simply said that she is beautiful, kind, industrious, loved by her mother; siblings, aunt, grandmother and cousins, and she said that she is not that interested to her studies. I asked her why does she don’t want to be serious on that matter. She said that she just loves to play, chat with some friends and classmates and most of all she said that she is not yet ready to go to school. Also she is not yet tired of playing. I asked her also, what if she doesn’t study well, is she will have a better job? She answered me this way, “ok lang yun andyan naman sila mama at lola eh”.
D.5 RELATIONSHIPS
Patrizia is more likely to be the 2nd child in their family (because her twin sister died). Before when she was on her mother’s side she was ask to do some light household chores, because there were no other person who will do those chores. The only adult with her was her mother and a sister (11 years old). Even if she asks to do those chores, her mother could not hear any disobeying words from the mouth of Patrizia. She was so close with her siblings and especially with her mother (because other say that they were so alike when it comes to the face). When her sisters do not have classes, Patrizia make it a point that they will have time to play.
When she moved away from their house and lives in her aunt’s house, Patrizia is some kind a sad. But eventually after a week, she learns to mingle with her cousins and play with them. In her aunt’s house, her grandmother serves as her mother, she was also close to her. Her grandmother always supports her in every activity she will have and give her the things that she needs. As a return for the kindness of her grandmother, Patrizia always come with her lola whenever her lola goes to the hospital.
Patrizia’s relationship with her father is not as good as with her mother and grandmother. Patrizia, open up her mind that her father will not come back anymore and she don’t loves her father because her father left them hanging. She assumes that she has no father at all.
D.6 ACTIONS
Patrizia usually wake up 6:00 in the morning, brushing her teeth, combing her hair and fixing her blanket and pillows. Outside the house she’s with her grandmother exercising their body. They do jumping rope, jugging, marching, stretching and many more. After those activities, her grandmother will take some rest and prepare their breakfast. Patrizia is helping her grandmother in preparing their food. Patrizia loves to eat pancake and top it with honey. After cooking Patrizia will prepare the table, she knows how to prepare the table because her mother at their home taught her. After that she would call her aunt and cousins to eat. When she’s at the table she’s fun of narrating the things they do at school. After that, her aunt would call her to take a bath for she is going to the school.
At school she is fun of chatting with her classmates and according to her teacher she’s fun of asking and asking questions, especially in discussion. When in recess time, Patrizia shares her meals to her classmates and also to her teacher. When discussing the lesson, she is not that participating, because actually she’s not really fun of studying, maybe it is because of her readiness that can affect her studies. But she’s trying to be more serious in her studies.
After class and got home, she just put her bag in the room and goes outside to play. She will play her Barbie dolls together with her friends and also her cousins. After playing, she will go inside and put her dolls in its proper place. When her aunt’s arrive from work, Patrizia will get her aunt’s things. Patrizia is very obedient and industrious, but with all that positive side she has also her negative side. Patrizia is fun of teasing her sister. She is attention seeker. She is short-tempered whenever her sister teased her in return.
SECTION E: THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Law of Readiness states that the more readiness the learner has to respond to the stimulus, the stronger will be the bond between them. When a person is ready to respond to a stimulus and is not made to respond it becomes annoying to the person.
SECTION F. PROGNOSIS
Readiness is one of the most important factors in the learning of each child. If the child is not ready to go to school it is very annoying. So, we must include readiness in the child when entering the school. We must ask the children about how and what they feel, so we can know and assess their feelings and emotions about it.
Patrizia is 5 years old child turning 6 this April. Although her age is just right in entering preschool, she is not yet ready to go to school. So as I conduct an observation to her about what I think the problem of my client, I conclude that, she is not yet ready to go to school. I asked her aunt, grandmother and also her teacher about her performance at school. They said that she is always present at school but her performance is not that much. I asked them what they think the reason why did Patrizia behave like that in school. Her grandmother said that when Patrizia is in her mother side, her mother do not have enough time to take care of the studies of Patrizia, because Patrizia is not the only child of her mother and there is no one who can do the responsibility of their mother, because her father is not at their home. Her aunt also added that, “kaya nga kinuha ko yan si Patrizia kasi masyadong nahihirapan yung mama nya”.
For me as a therapist of my client, it is better for Patrizia to be in her aunt and grandmother’s side. Although she will be far away from her mother and siblings it will be much better for her. Unlike in her mother’s side her studies will not be taking care of. Maybe her mother and siblings will visit Patrizia, so that the child will not be lonely. Also, they can make schedule of activities.
SECTION G: THERAPEUTIC PLANS
G.1: KNOWLEDGE BUILDING
At the end of this case study, my client should, realize that studying is very important in the betterment of her future.
To understand why her father does left them. (understanding with proper time at her proper age)
G.2: SKILLS BUILDING
At the end of my observation with my client, she should develop enthusiasm when it comes to her studies.
To be more active in all activities the school will held.
G.3: ATTITUDE BUILDING:
At the end of this case study, my client should, build strong relationship towards her family. (mother, siblings, grandmother, aunt, cousins and also with her father)
To forgive her father (make sure that the child is ready), because her father is still the man who gives life to her.
SECTION H: THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION
Knowledge Building
SKILLS BUILDING
ATTITUDE BUILDING
SECTION I: THERAPEUTIC PROGRESS
After executing and accomplishing therapeutic plans, my client child feels very comfortable and at ease, because she expresses her feelings freely. With regards in her school, she became more active in everything she does. She is starting to join school activities. Also with the influence of her cousins, she became more aware in her studies. In terms with her father, she is now happy because they had talked everything. Her mother explains to Patrizia what the reason of their separation was. They call each other whenever there is free time.
SECTION J: THERAPEUTIC RESULTS
After of so much observation I had from my client, there were so many changes happen. From the therapeutic plan I had conduct, I can say that I was able to succeed in those activities. In knowledge building, the aral-aralan is very useful because it makes Patrizia realize that studying is very important especially to her future. In listening (dance with my father song) it makes her understand the importance of having a father in our lives.
In skills building, I chose to have a visitation in the library, so that she will encourage to develop enthusiasm and also to be more active in her studies, because in the library there were materials that can attract to the interest of the students to learn.
In attitude building, eating is the best way to talk personally to the family members, if we have this we can know what is happening or what is the progress of one’s life. And even she develops hatred to her father, a simple talk can be use to show that you are still having the concern to your father which Patrizia did, she texted her father.
SECTION K: SUMMARY
Patricia Alyssa Sta. Maria is a 5 years old child and will celebrating her birthday this coming April 16.She lives with her sister together with her aunt and grandmother. Her aunt is the one who provides the needs of Patrizia, because her mother was separated to her father, and her mother do not have any source of income or money. She is studying at St. Mary’s Day Care Center (Kindergarten level).
Patrizia’s relationship with her father is not as good as with her mother and grandmother. Patrizia, open up her mind that her father will not come back anymore and she don’t loves her father because her father left them hanging. She assumes that she has no father at all. So as a result, she develops hatred to him.
As I conduct an observation to her, I observed that her problem was all about her studies, which she is not that interested or simply say she is not yet ready to go to school. Also she develops hatred to her father.
CONCLUSION:
For me as a therapist of my client, I therefore conclude that, it is better for Patrizia to be in her aunt and grandmother’s side. Although she will be far away from her mother and siblings it will be much better for her. Unlike in her mother’s side her studies will not be taking care of. Maybe her mother and siblings will visit Patrizia, so that the child will not be lonely. Also, they can make schedule of activities.
Also give Patrizia the right time at her right age for her to better understand the reason or the cause of her parents’ separation and give the child enough time to heal the wounds her father brought to the family.
RECOMMENDATION
As a therapist of my client child, I recommend that the family should have enough and quality time to take good care of her and most especially to her studies. Also, her mother and siblings should visits Patrizia, so that the child will not feel the loneliness not having them beside her. Also the family should communicate her father so that at least once a month they have the chance to talk about what’s going on with their own life. Even though she develops hatred to her father, at the end of the story her father is still the one who gives life to her, and without him there will be no Patrizia Alyssa.
SECTION L: IMPLICATIONS
As I conduct this observation, I come up that it is hard to be a therapist especially when it is your first time handling those situations. As a matter of fact giving advices is not my forte. So I had a hard time analyzing situations which I didn’t encountered at all.
So as a future educator, I can apply my experiences doing this case study in the field of education. I come up with questions in which I can use. Here are some questions:
How to deal with students whom is not yet ready to go to school?
How can we encourage them?
What advice can we give to those students, to be enthusiastic in their studies?
Are we going to force students to study? What if they don’t want to?
Those are questions in which will serve as my guidelines when I will be a teacher.

PERSON-CENTERED THERAPY
SUMMARY OF PERSON-CENTERED THERAPY
Ø Jamila Calizo
Ø Recelyn De Quiroz
Ø Jenesis Mateo
Ø Ma. Lorena Obinguar
The Person Centered Therapy was established by Carl Rogers. He first called it as “counselor-centered therapy”. This therapy administers tests, asks questions, and suggests courses of action to the client. Carl Rogers call his patients as “client” and not the usual “patient”. This approach is “non-directive counseling”, until it was change to “person-centered counseling “which means emphasizing its focus on human capacities.
The simulation presented in the person-centered therapy was the problem of Mrs. Oak. She undergone numbers of counseling just to realize on her own, that she will need to become positive and more self confidence to herself to solve her problem.
“Not in doing, but in being”, this is the main function of the therapists. They provide a climate of safety and trust, which will encourage clients to reintegrate their self actualizing and self valuing processes. The person-centered therapist is non-authoritarian, and formal assessment of the client’s problems in the form of psychological testing is considered to be inappropriate and unnecessary.
The goals of person-centered therapy are not to solve the problems but to facilitate process in which clients can know who they really are and become fully functioning human beings. It eliminates the need for impressing others, lying to oneself, or other. It tries to eliminate the unhealthy need to please others and to move toward increasingly trusting ones own experiences.
The major methods and techniques used in person-centered therapy are:
Ø Congruence- the therapists’ inner experiences and their observable outward actions match.
Ø Unconditional- positive regard- the clients worth is not dependent on others expectations and approval.
Ø Emphatic Understanding- the therapist enters the clients place and understands the world from his or his perspective, adopting the client’s internal frame of references.
